I was first introduced to true rappelling on a mountain climbing trip in Kentucky. Since then, I have had some memorable raps, including one multi-pitch rappel 500 feet down next to a waterfall, a single line 900 foot pit rappel, and a 550 foot multi-pitch rappel down a big wall in Zion. I use rappelling as a means of getting other people interested in the outdoors, interested in climbing, and for gaining a respect for nature. For many climbers, rappelling goes hand in hand with mountain climbing.
Here is a picture of a rappel from the peak at Halfmoon in Kentucky.

Of course, every once in a while you need to mess around a bit (safely of course.) Here is my Tom Cruise, Mission Impossible impersonation.
