Ever run and jump off a mountain aussie rappel style? Pretty wild stuff.
We first started doing this in 1998. It progressed from one of my long trips; where we were doing tons of rappels. We started with normal rappels, then more advanced, then Aussie, then advanced Aussie, etc. I guess we were just getting bored, so we started to let some slack out and took a running jump off the mountain. We called it slacklining; which now has an entirely different meaning. We even started to see who could get the closes to the ground; looking back, that last part was pretty dumb. Glad none of us got hurt.
You could also think of what we were doing as a poor man's base jumping; which I really wanted to do. I still want to eventually get into base jumping. Although, I haven't had the opportunity to finish my class A skydiving license yet, nor have I purchased my own parachute. I do know about the bridge jump at the New River Gorge and have been there as an observer; wild stuff. I have also heard of a waterfall base jump in Venezuela - Angel Falls. If you have any information you want to share relating to base jumping, feel free to e-mail me with details.
